DJs on SoundCloud, Podcast & Elsewhere

For a perfect warm up for your night out, check out these local DJs who share their mixes online. Planning your own private party? Play along with these local lovelies.

DJ Guy Ruben

DJ Guy Ruben is ubiquitous to the local scene (The Lookout, 440, Truck, etc.). He’s got four one-hour dance and electronic mixes on his Soundcloud site, including the “Live at 440″ mix that has an insistent yet clean series of retro songs mixed in with the beats, plus an “Autumn 2011 Mix.” That’s just right for the holidays: http://soundcloud.com/djguyruben

DJ Neon Leon offers up only one mix, yet it’s House-tastic with a combination of vocal music and extended instrumental grooves that starts off with a reading by poet Maya Angelou. Good morning! http://soundcloud.com/neonleon

DJ Sergio

Go Bang’s Sergio, our favorite fag-stag DJ, hauls out the disco classics and amusing obscurities like few others. Among his nearly 20 mixes online, his shows on KALX radio, and Go Bang gigs in San Francisco and Chicago, are available, with mixes ranging from one to three hours, plus a few interesting single mixes.http://soundcloud.com/sergioaudio

Prodigious porn papi and dexterous DJ Tristan Jaxx’s new monthly event Chaos at Beatbox is taking off. If you missed his gigs there, or at The Lookout, Folsom events, or other venues around town and the country, check out his live mixes at http://djtristanjaxx.podomatic.com/ Unlike many others, Jaxx lists the songs in each mix, which is considerate. He also labels the mixes “clean” or “explicit,” so you know in advance if things are gonna get naughty.

DJ Robbie Martin

DJ Robbie Martin has his mixes embedded on his own site as Mp3s, and they are worth a listen, in case you missed (or want to remember) his gigs at Red Meat, The Lookout or Berkeley’s Steamworks. While many have a big uplifting dance floor sound, others really get down. http://www.djrobbiemartin.com/

David Harness‘ most recent dance music podcasts are from the popular Taboo event at Oakland’s Bench and Bar. Also, check out his “Classic Attack” for retro R&B sweetness. http://davidharness.podomatic.com/

For extended House mixes and single recreations of Beyoncé and Adele hits, check out Hector Fonseca’s Soundcloud. His London gig clocks in at an hour and offers spacey danceable grooves.  http://soundcloud.com/hector-fonseca-music

DJs Adrian and the Mysterious D

Those crazy kids Adrian and Mysterious D continue to the rule the mash-up realm (since 2003). Whether they’re in residence at DNA Lounge’s weekly Saturday Bootie SF, or webcasting from Vietnam and Berlin, you can be sure their mixes will bring on a pop cultural smile. Madonna + ZZ Top? Bjork + The Cure? It all works, and the first 100 patrons at Bootie get free mash-up CDs (CDs? How retro!).  http://bootiemashup.com/webcast/
