Folsom Street Fair is, for many, a day to dust off their harnesses and too-small arm bands for drinking and rubbernecking on the street. For others, it’s a fun time to safely explore their wild side and discover a fetish or fantasy they never knew they had.

Folsom Street Fair, the largest fetish fair in the world, and one of San Francisco’s biggest annual events, will fill South of Market’s streets with thousands of leather-clad people, and many wearing a lot less, on Sunday September 26. How do organizers manage such a big event?
Photographer Steven Underhill, who shot our gorgeous cover image for BARtab #5, stopped by Chaps II for Locker Room, Sept. 2, which was also the BARtab “Leather & Sex” issue #5 premiere party for BARtab. Gift cards from Good Vibrations and five pairs of tickets to the Scissor Sisters concert (Sept 12 at Oakland’s Fox Theatre) were randomly handed in a fun raffle.
Get out your slings and hoods. It’s Dore Alley month! Or rather, Up Your Alley, as it’s now called. Coming each year on the last Sunday of July, Up Your Alley is (or was) San Francisco’s answer to the size and perceived commercialization of the Folsom Street Fair.
Let’s say your curiosity for the knot-tying kink gets piqued at Rope, the Friday, May 14 event at Chaps II, hosted by rope studs Jorge and Josh (9pm-12am). But how does one play with ropes without the possibility of becoming a comedic episode of Trauma?
