It’s hard enough to keep a bar open these days, but outdated laws and out-of-touch regulators are adding to the headaches facing your favorite nightspots. It’s a problem that’s put the squeeze many an LGBT space over the years.
What makes a bar or nightclub romantic? Is it dim lighting? The faint sounds of soothing music and cozy couches? Knowing that you won’t wait 20 minutes in line for the restroom, only to watch seven people come out of the single-person bathroom all at once?
San Francisco’s gay scene has seen a wave of renovations lately, from massive construction projects to smashing new after-hours clubs to a hot new attitude sweeping South of Market. Everywhere you look, there’s something fresh.
That same dynamic spirit and love of sports among SF giants fans is found in many who participate in local gay sports teams, ranging from softball to rugby to water polo.

When it comes to discussing music, DJ Bus Station John approaches the subject with the passion and spirit of a Sunday morning preacher. “It’s all about the music. This music needs to be heard. It needs to be witnessed. It needs to be celebrated,” says the bearded keeper of rare disco.
